January Happenings

Hello Young 5's families,
It was wonderful seeing most of you at the open house this week.  If you did not have a chance to come, I have included the video I had playing that night.  I think you will find some familiar faces. :)

Happy New Year!  Young 5's rang in the New Year with the story, The Night Before New Year's.

We talked about New Years resolutions and then made our own.

The snow is finally here!  We used the story to work on oral language.  We then created a circle map of winter clothing.    Inspired by Julie Lee.

Take a look into our explorations with Blandford Nature Center this week.

Here we are searching for acorns.  We discussed the emotions we felt when some of our friends found an acorn and others did not.

These squirrels felt happy and satisfied after finding their acorns.

Here we are hibernating with Miss Janet.  We learned the word dormant.

I have a basket in the room where some students are keeping their indoor shoes.  Feel free to send in a pair to be kept in the classroom.

Enjoy your Weekend!

Christmas Celebrations

Hello Young 5's families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break.   I spent my break enjoying time with family and vacationing in Florida for a few days.  I am already missing the heat! ;)

Here is a peek into our classroom before Christmas break...

Science and Math

We graphed which part of the gingerbread man we ate first.  Our class had the greatest amount of bites out of the gingerbread mans head.  Ouch!

Afterwards, we brainstormed adjectives that described how the gingerbread man tasted.

We also graphed the ornaments on the tree.  Our class had been focusing on bar graphs in December.

How many marshmallows are in your hot cocoa mug?

Young 5's entered the WSCS door competition with a scene from the movie Elf.

Snow Clothes:
Please be sure to send your child to school with their snow clothes in a bag.  We will be having recess at the end of the day, so your child will come home in their gear.  If you would like to leave a pair of indoor shoes at school, you are welcome to do so.   Also, there is a sledding hill outside, so if your child wants to sled at recess, only the thin plastic sleds that roll up are allowed. We will store them at school. :)

Thank you,
Katelyn
