What's 'Buzzing' In Young 5's
This weeks blog post is filled with images from the last month and a half. I apologize ahead of time for the lack of 'flow' to the post.
Here we are enjoying the second graders in Mrs. Koster's class perform their play. They reenacted the story of, Bringing the Rain to Kapiki Plain.
Gods' Big Words
Aprils' Word and the story we used to discover how we can apply it to our lives.
Gods' Big Word for May
Bible
We started our creation unit in April. We have been creating a page for each day of creation. We sing, 'Awesome God' at the close of each lesson.
Fine Arts Week
Fine Arts week brought many exciting events. One was the butterfly exhibit. Each student at WSCS created a butterfly and added it to the exhibit. The exhibit is an installment and travels all over the world. Which means our art will be displayed all over the world too! :)
Fire Station Fun
Fairy Tale Unit
As we traveled through fairy tales in April, we practiced retelling the stories using a story walk. Here Annika and Aubrey are retelling the story to their peers as they walk through the story.
Letters
To celebrate Zz week, we read a story about a Zoo. When we were finished, we created maps to help the animals get from the Zoo to Amos' house. Using our word list each student was asked to use at least 3 words on their map.
Wohoo! We have worked through the alphabet. Throughout the rest of the school year, we will be doing review activities, capitol and lower case letter matching, and for some of kiddos sounding out words. In the picture below each child was given a tulip and clip board and wrote letters they saw around the room. We call this 'write the room'.
Science
Here is a peek into our healthful food unit. We spent time discussing what a healthful plate looked like and created an example plate to help us visualize it. We also played a game called, 'yuck mouth and clean mouth' to sort healthful foods and unhealthful foods.
Math
Over the last few weeks we have been focusing largely on writing and recognizing numbers. Here is a peek at one game we played with partners. After tossing the 'puffy ball' each player was responsible for naming the number it lands on and crossing it off the chart. This game is a favorite.

Easter
“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth.” (Job 19:25)
